McBride, L. (2010). Hold me closer, necromancer [Kindle version]. New York, NY: Henry Holt & Co. ASIN-B003P8Q5L2
Award: 2012 Bluegrass Award Winner for High School
Genre: YA Fiction Summary: This book is about a boy named Sam and his friends from work, Ramon, Frank, and Brooke, all in their late teens. While working in a fast food restaurant, a game of potato hockey begins his journey to discover that he is a necromancer. He struggles with accepting his "gift" and preventing others from taking his ability, especially another local necromancer named Douglas.
Why I liked it...
I chose this book because of its interesting title. I had no idea what a necromancer is. I really enjoyed the magical aspect of it, and being a Twilight lover, this was right up my alley with its werewolf characters. Readers who like Twilight will definitely enjoy this!
Curriculum Connection:ELA 9/10 Reading Standard 3 - CCR: Analyze how and why individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.
Promotional Activity: This book is slightly dark in nature, so I would choose to promote it during Halloween. I would do spooky but simple book trailer as an invitation and do a spooky candlelit book club once a week during the month of October.
